An athletic scholarship is an offer to attend a college or university. It is awarded to an individual predominantly based on his or her ability to play a sport while also excelling in the classroom.
NCAA statistics show that less than 2% of college athletes earn a Division I full scholarship. This means that the majority of athletes are awarded either full or partial scholarships to play at Division II, Division III, NAIA or NJCAA level schools.
